Job summary

Gallagher Security is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer in Hamilton, New Zealand. You will design, develop and support embedded software close to hardware, using C/C++ on ARM-based systems within an agile team.

You will work with hardware engineers, contribute to requirements and documentation, and help ensure secure, robust software with modern CI/testing practices. Hybrid office presence is typical.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of commercial software development experience.
• Strong Embedded C/C++ development skills.
• Knowledge of digital electronics, microprocessors and embedded systems.
• Experience with debugging tools, version control systems and modern development environments.
• Experience with automated testing and software quality practices.
• Understanding of multi-threaded and asynchronous applications.
• Exposure to board bring-up, driver development or embedded Linux environments.
• Python and/or Ruby experience would be advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively within an agile, cross-functional team.
• Exposure to cryptography, embedded security concepts or Zephyr OS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and maintaining embedded software components and features.
• Collaborating with hardware engineers on board bring-up, debugging and software integration.
• Contributing to requirements, solution design and technical documentation.
• Analysing software performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Supporting existing products through troubleshooting and technical problem solving.
• Participating in code reviews, automated testing and quality improvement initiatives.
• Estimating work, managing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes within agile teams.
• Continuously developing your technical capability and contributing to engineering best practice.
