Job summary

WEL Networks is seeking an experienced Electrical Fitter to join the Substation Services team in the Waikato region. The role focuses on network repairs, maintenance and construction for the 11kV/33kV network, including asset inspections and reliability support for substations, ringmains and transformers.

Key duties include installation, testing, fault finding and 24-hour callout readiness. The ideal candidate holds current electrical registration, can work independently, and prioritises health

Qualifications

• Extensive technical knowledge and a current electrical registration.
• Experience as a switching operator would be advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain and repair substations, ring mains, and transformers on 11kV/33kV networks.
• Conduct inspections, assess condition, and record asset status.
• Test and commission electrical equipment.
• Perform cable testing and fault finding.
• Participate in a 24-hour fault response roster.
• Coordinate with control centre, dispatch and operations staff.

About the role

As an Electrical Fitter, you will join our Substation Services team to provide network repairs, maintenance and construction services for WEL’s network. The successful candidate will also support the reliability of network assets by providing asset inspection services to primarily substations, ringmains and transformers.

Duties

• Substation equipment installations, and construction, maintenance and repair of the 11kV and 33kV network

• Undertaking inspections, performing condition assessment and recording asset condition

• Testing and commissioning electrical equipment

• Cable testing and fault finding

• Participate in a callout roster for 24hr fault response and repair

• Liaising with the control centre, dispatch and operations staff, and other utilities/authorities

Skills and experience

• Extensive technical knowledge and a current electrical registration

• Experienced switching operator, would be an advantage

• Ability and experience to work independently and unsupervised

• Demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to workplace health and safety
