Job summary

Ministry of Education New Zealand invites a Psychologist to join our Education Services Group in Porirua. The role focuses on equitable, effective psychology services for children and young people with learning needs, aligned with Ministry objectives.

You will work with schools and whānau, applying strengths-based practice, and contributing to intervention planning and inclusive education across diverse settings. NZ registration and a postgraduate qualification are required.

Qualifications

• Experience working effectively with children, young people and families/whānau across diverse settings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with collaborative approach.
• Proven counselling, negotiating, and mediation experience.
• Ability to use data/insights to identify trends and inform decisions.
• Translate specialist knowledge into practical information for schools and whānau.
• Coordinate service provision within multi‑agency, trans‑disciplinary settings.

Responsibilities

• Apply a strengths-based approach.
• Identify patterns or factors influencing learning, wellbeing and behaviour.
• Provide professional support to schools, teachers and parents/caregivers/whānau in collaboration.
• Support learner goals progress collaboratively.
• Enhance inclusive practices in early learning services and schools.
