Department of Corrections in Wellington seeks an Education Tutor to deliver end-to-end rehabilitation and reintegration learning for prison-based learners. You will support pathway assessments, use secure online education sites, and help learners improve literacy, numeracy, and employability.
This fixed-term maternity cover focuses on engagement, assessment, and progression. Based at Rimutaka Men's Prison, you will work with stakeholders to achieve positive rehabilitation outcomes.

Responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of end-to-end rehabilitation and reintegration functions, our Learning and Interventions teams are dedicated to reducing re‑offending.
This is a great opportunity to gain some hands‑on experience to kick start your career. As an Education Tutor you will support prison‑based learners to become better prepared for employment and further education. You will focus on supporting learners to engage in pathway assessments, using our secure online education websites to help improve their skills, knowledge, and transition into further study and/or employment post release.
You will also be supporting a variety of education programmes and activities offered to the men we manage. You will play a significant role in encouraging learners to improve their literacy and numeracy skills, work towards achieving New Zealand qualifications and to acquire job search skills.
This position is based within our custodial environment thus it is imperative that you can effectively lead by example and maintain professional boundaries. By interacting closely with key stakeholders, both internal and external, you will be collaborative in sharing information and ensuring outcomes beneficial to the successful rehabilitation of the men in our care.
This is a fixed‑term position, covering maternity leave, until 19 February 2027.
The midpoint of the salary range is $80,623 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $77,841 - $86,152 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role. For more information on the role of an Education Tutor please review the Job Description.
