Job summary

The Ministry of Education New Zealand is recruiting an Early Intervention Teacher to join our Learning Support team in Waitakere City. You will provide high-quality support aligned with He Pikorua principles, Te Whariki and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo, helping tamariki reach their potential.

You will collaborate with whānau, teachers and kaiako, plan interventions, support transitions, and work within a trans-disciplinary team to address diverse learning needs across early childhood and family

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and be a fully registered teacher.
• Post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or ability to attain within four years.
• Few years of teaching experience and deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
• Understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in early childhood and family homes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with ākonga | learners, whānau | families and kaiako | teachers across diverse settings.
• Ability to understand and apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
• Full driver’s licence.
• New Zealand citizen, resident or holder of a valid working visa.
• Ability and willingness to adhere to Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality learning support in line with He Pikorua guiding principles, strands and Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum.
• Build and strengthen the capability of parents, teachers and whānau/families to support learning.
• Understand families’ needs, collaboratively plan, support and monitor intervention plans.
• Support transition points in the child’s learning pathway into early childhood education and to school.
• Work as part of a trans-disciplinary team addressing complex needs.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team by:

• Providing high-quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework He Pikorua guiding principles, strands, and goals of Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo.
• Building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support children’s’ learning such as parents, teachers and whānau | families.
• Understanding the families’ needs, collaboratively planning, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of intervention plans.
• Supporting transition points in the child’s learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood education and to school as required.
• Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.

Salary range: $69,966 - $106,016 per annum plus KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Education Services in the Ministry. We ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
