Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Gisborne is seeking a Duty Nurse Manager to oversee 24-hour clinical coordination and patient flow across Gisborne Hospital. Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with a current NZ Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
  • NZQA Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) and working towards a Masters.
  • PDRP Expert or Designated Senior Nurse level.
  • Minimum of five years' recent clinical experience with leadership responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM) and patient acuity systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving Māori health outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and maintain high standards of patient care and safety.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate staffing resources to ensure safe and effective care delivery.
  • Monitor patient acuity and workload demands.
  • Provide clinical leadership and act as a key contact during emergencies and incident management.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, operational leaders and support services to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Lead nursing services outside normal business hours and support hospital operations.
  • Support organisational risk management and incident response across Gisborne Hospital.

About the Role

This pivotal leadership role provides 24-hour clinical coordination, patient flow management, staffing oversight, and operational support across Gisborne Hospital, with a strong emphasis on after-hours service delivery and organisational risk management.

As a Duty Nurse Manager, you will coordinate staffing resources to ensure safe and effective care delivery, monitor patient acuity and workload demands, provide clinical leadership, and act as a key point of contact during emergency and incident management situations. You will work closely with clinical teams, operational leaders, and support services to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and efficient service delivery across the hospital

The Duty Nurse Manager role sits within the Office of the Chief Nurse and reports directly to the Deputy Chief Nurse. Working within a collaborative and supportive environment, you will play a key role in maintaining hospital-wide operations and leading nursing services outside normal business hours

About you

You will be an experienced nursing leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates excellent clinical judgement, communication skills, and operational awareness

Essential requirements include:
