Gisborne Hospital in New Zealand is seeking an experienced and dynamic registered nurse to join the Office of the Chief Nurse as a Duty Nurse Manager. This part‑time role provides 24‑hour operational coordination, clinical leadership, patient flow management and resource allocation across Gisborne Hospital.

You will coordinate staffing resources, support safe patient care, manage organisational risk after hours, and provide leadership during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Current New Zealand Registered Nurse.
• Annual Practising Certificate (APCNZQA).
• PDRP Expert or Designated Senior Nurse level.
• At least five years of recent clinical experience with leadership responsibilities.
• Knowledge of CCDM and patient acuity tools.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving health outcomes for Māori.
• Ability to prioritise, manage competing demands and lead in complex situations.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic registered nurse to join our Office of the Chief Nurse team as a Duty Nurse Manager (DNM). This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for providing 24-hour operational coordination, clinical leadership, patient flow management, and resource allocation across Gisborne Hospital.

As Duty Nurse Manager, you will coordinate staffing resources, support safe and effective patient care, manage organisational risk after hours, and provide leadership during emergency and incident responses. You will work collaboratively with nursing, medical, allied health and operational teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and positive outcomes for patients and whānau.

About you

• Current New Zealand Registered Nurse
• Annual Practising Certificate (APCNZQA Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent)
• PDRP Expert or Designated Senior Nurse level
• At least five years of recent clinical experience with leadership responsibilities such as shift coordination or clinical leadership.
• Strong clinical leadership, problem‑solving, decision‑making, and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM) and patient acuity tools.
• A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving health outcomes for Māori.
• The ability to prioritise effectively, manage competing demands, and lead confidently in complex and challenging situations.
