Job summary

Franklin Smith Group is seeking an experienced drainlayer for long‑term civil infrastructure work in Auckland. The role focuses on heavy civil drainage for major projects, installing stormwater and wastewater systems and working with large diameter pipes.

You will read plans, set out work, and coordinate with machine operators on site. Expect steady, long-term work with strong overtime opportunities and site support.

Qualifications

• Drainlaying and civil infrastructure experience
• Confident reading plans and setting out work independently
• Strong understanding of levels, grades and falls
• Comfortable working in deep excavations
• Site Safe certification (civil preferred)
• WTR endorsements a bonus

Responsibilities

• Install reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and large diameter stormwater/wastewater lines (225mm–1200mm+)
• Lay PVC pipes 100mm–375mm and prepare bedding to correct grade
• Set out using pipe lasers and verify levels and falls
• Construct and install precast concrete manholes and bench/channels per spec
• Install drop connections and service laterals
• Coordinate with excavator operators and crane lifts while maintaining safe trenching practices

DRAINLAYER – CIVIL / INFRASTRUCTURE – AUCKLAND

We’re looking for an experienced Drainlayer with strong infrastructure and subdivision background, someone confident working with large diameter pipework and precast manholes.

This is heavy civil work, not residential plumbing.

You’ll be working on major Auckland infrastructure projects installing critical stormwater and wastewater systems that actually shape the city.

What you’ll be doing:

• Installing reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and large diameter stormwater/wastewater lines (225mm–1200mm+)
• PVC 100mm – 375mm
• Preparing pipe bedding to correct grade and line
• Setting out using pipe lasers and checking levels/falls
• Constructing and installing precast concrete manholes
• Benching and channelling manholes to spec
• Installing drop connections and service laterals
• Coordinating with Excavator Operators and crane lifts
• Maintaining safe trenching practices (shoring, battering, shields)

What we’re looking for:

• Proven civil drainage / infrastructure experience
• Confident reading plans and setting out work independently
• Strong understanding of levels, grades, and falls
• Comfortable working in deep excavations
• Current Site Safe (civil preferred)
• WTR endorsements a bonus
