Job summary

Downer in Wellington is seeking an experienced Civil Drainlayer to join our team. You'll work on essential stormwater and wastewater projects, installing pipework, manholes and chambers while reading plans and ensuring quality workmanship.

This hands-on role offers steady, long-term work, strong team support, and development opportunities across New Zealand and Australia.

Successful applicants will be committed to health and safety and be comfortable in a collaborative, outdoor setting.

Qualifications

  • Qualified drainlayer with civil drainage experience.
  • Experience on stormwater and wastewater projects.
  • Able to read plans and work independently.
  • Strong health, safety and teamwork mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Install stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Lay PVC, PE and concrete pipework; construct manholes and chambers.
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Complete live network tie-ins and maintain safety standards.

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Civil Drainlayer to join our Wellington team.

This is a hands-on role where you'll work on essential stormwater and wastewater infrastructure projects that help keep Wellington running. From laying pipe and installing manholes to completing live network tie-ins, you'll play a key role in delivering quality infrastructure for local communities.

Working alongside an experienced crew, you'll enjoy a variety of work, strong team support, and the opportunity to further develop your career within one of New Zealand's leading infrastructure businesses.

Your day-to-day may include:
  • Installing stormwater and wastewater infrastructure
  • Laying PVC, PE and concrete pipework
  • Constructing manholes, catchpits and chambers
  • Reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Completing live network tie-ins
  • Working within confined spaces when required
  • Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship
Ngā Pūkenga Matua | Important Skills

We're looking for someone who enjoys being on the tools, takes pride in their workmanship, and works well as part of a team.

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • A recognised Drainlaying qualification
  • Proven experience working within civil drainage construction
  • Experience in stormwater and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge of Three Waters infrastructure (water supply experience is a bonus)
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and quality
  • Full Class 1 licence (Class 2 advantageous)
  • The ability to read plans and work independently when required
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in
