Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui invites applications for a Registered Nurse to join our District Nursing Service in Whanganui. This role focuses on delivering high-quality nursing care to patients and whānau across the Rangitīkei community.

You will assess health needs, develop and implement care plans, and work autonomously while collaborating with general practice teams, aged care providers and a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, equitable and person-centred care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with a current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Ability to practise safely within the RN scope of practice.
  • Experience in assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, clinical judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident using electronic clinical systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care and support to patients and whānau across the Rangitīkei community.
  • Assess health needs, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate care.
  • Work autonomously while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, equitable care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement and patient experience initiatives.
  • Engage with general practice teams and aged residential care providers as part of district nursing.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our District Nursing Service in Whanganui.This role will primarily provide nursing care and support to patients and whānau across the Rangitīkei community.

As a District Nurse, you will provide high-quality nursing care to patients and whānau within community settings. Working across a diverse range of clinical needs, you will utilise your professional nursing knowledge and clinical judgement to assess health needs, develop and implement care plans, and support individuals to manage their health and wellbeing.

This role offers a rewarding opportunity to work autonomously while collaborating closely with patients, whānau, general practice teams, aged residential care providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to deliver safe, equitable and person-centred care.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be a Registered Nurse with a current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate.
  • Demonstrate the ability to practise safely and effectively within the Registered Nurse scope of practice.
  • Have experience in assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
  • Be able to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Possess excellent communication, relationship management, clinical judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Be confident using electronic clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Hold a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Whānau Ora and achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Experience in community, primary care or district nursing.
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) attainment.
