Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley is seeking experienced District Nurses for Wellington district nursing. The role involves autonomously delivering home-based care to patients in their communities, with a focus on coordination with GP practices and multidisciplinary teams.

We offer a flexible roster with part-time 0.6 FTE hours and opportunities for professional development. A supportive team and orientation are provided for nurses new to community care.

Qualifications

• Current Annual Practising Certificate (RN) with NZ Nursing Council.
• Minimum five years of broad clinical nursing experience.
• On the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) or willingness to work towards it.
• Experience in district/community nursing or strong interest in community-based care.

Responsibilities

• Provide home-based district nursing care in patients' homes and communities.
• Deliver intravenous therapy, palliative care, wound care, compression bandaging, and Doppler assessments.
• Manage medications, stoma and incontinence care; respiratory support and home oxygen therapy where needed.
• Develop care plans, direct HCAs, and collaborate with the wider Community Health team for coordinated care.

Are you an experienced Registered Nurse seeking greater autonomy and working in an environment with a diverse range of patient care. We have casual opportunity available in our Wellington District Nursing team.

About the Team/Service/Location

What we offer flexible shifts, morning: 8:00am - 4:30pm and afternoon: 1:30pm - 10:00pm

We're seeking District Nurse to join our supportive nursing team, working out of the Ewart building, 2 Coromandel Street, Newtown Wellington.

District Nursing is a dynamic and evolving specialty. Our nurses play a vital role in supporting patients transitioning from hospital to home, and in working alongside GP practices to provide care in the community.

Delivering home-based interventions

• Intravenous therapy
• Palliative care
• Wound care
• Compression bandaging and Doppler assessments
• Medication management
• Stoma and incontinence care
• Respiratory support and home oxygen therapy

Assessing patients for their personal care needs and developing care plans. Direction and delegation of the Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and collaborating the wider Community Health team to ensure safe, coordinated care.

About you

To be successful in this role

• A current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Registered Nurse with the NZ Nursing Council.
• Previous experience in district nursing or a strong interest in community-based care
• At least five years of broad clinical nursing experience
• On the Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP), or willingness to work towards it
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Excellent relationship-building skills with community healthcare providers
