Job summary

The Emergency Management Advisor role with Emergency Management Southland sits within Environment Southland. You will work across Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery, building relationships with communities and delivering training and public education to strengthen disaster resilience in the Southland region.

You’ll coordinate community response plans, engage local groups, and speak at meetings and events, with rostered on-duty obligations and after-hours work as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Emergency Management, Community Development, or equivalent qualification or 3 years' experience in Emergency Management systems and functions.
• Experience in organising meetings and engaging local community groups.
• Ability to speak at community meetings and events.
• Able to coordinate and deliver training for council staff and community partners.
• Able to use social media and understands the various platforms available.
• Competent with Microsoft products; knowledge of Office 365 is desirable.
• Experience with Health & Safety legislation.
• Clean, full, current driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Proactively build relationships with community and key stakeholders to deliver outcomes that increase preparedness.
• Support communities to develop community response plans.
• Develop and delivering public education programmes.
• Deliver training across the 4R's to Southland council staff, communities and volunteers.
• Actively participate in response to support the Emergency Coordination Centre operations.
• Availability for rostered on-duty obligations and after-hours work is a core part of the role.
