This is a significant leadership opportunity to shape the future of prudential supervision at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand – Te Pūtea Matua. As Director of Prudential Supervision, you will set the direction for a modern, effective and forward‑looking supervisory function that supports financial stability and confidence in New Zealand’s financial system. You will:

Help shape Te Pūtea Matua’s strategic priorities as a trusted member of the broader Leadership Team, championing a one-team approach and organisation-wide outcomes.

Lead frontline prudential supervision of licensed deposit takers and insurers, ensuring engagement, assessment, decisions and advice are risk‑based, proportionate, forward‑looking and aligned with our statutory objectives and financial stability mandate.

Modernise and strengthen prudential supervision through effective planning and delivery of group‑wide and cross‑functional strategies and programmes.

Model exceptional leadership by living our values and developing high‑performing people and teams.

Build constructive, credible and appropriately independent relationships with regulated entities, domestic agencies, peer regulators and other key stakeholders.

You are an accomplished senior leader with experience in prudential supervision, financial regulation, financial services, risk management or a comparable regulatory environment. You have led frontline regulatory functions, set clear priorities, exercised sound judgement in complex environments, and delivered consistent, risk‑based outcomes.

You will also bring:

Strong strategic capability, including experience in leading change and building the people, systems and practices required for future‑focused delivery.

The credibility and judgement to engage senior leaders, boards, regulated entities, government agencies and other stakeholders on complex, sensitive or high‑impact matters.

A sound understanding of prudential regulation, supervision, governance, risk management and financial stability matters, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly in the New Zealand context.
