Job summary

Reserve Bank of New Zealand is seeking an Advisor in the Capital and Solvency, Prudential Policy team based in Auckland to lead policy projects and provide high‑quality advice to senior leaders. You will influence stakeholders and contribute to shaping policy development within the Financial Stability Group.

You will engage with industry and public sector partners, coach junior colleagues, and contribute to cross‑Bank initiatives while embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi across work streams.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years' professional experience in public policy, regulation, financial services or a related field.
  • A degree in economics, finance, law, public policy or a related discipline.
  • Proven track record delivering complex policy, analytical or financial projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non‑specialist audiences.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring colleagues and leading small teams.
  • Knowledge of government processes, legislation and Cabinet decision‑making.
  • Sound judgement and holistic thinking; ability to identify policy‑relevant issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain NZ National Security Clearance.

Te tūranga - The role

Join the Capital and Solvency team within the Financial Stability Group, which leads RBNZ's work to support the stability of New Zealand's financial system. The Capital and Solvency team are responsible for two key areas of policy to support financial stability: how much capital banks are required to have and the solvency requirements for insurers. The team recently led a high-profile review of capital settings, which involved high-quality policy analysis, research and cost benefit analysis.

As an Advisor, you will lead projects, workstreams and analysis that shape policy development and decision-making across the Bank. Your work will inform senior leaders, strengthen engagement with industry and public sector stakeholders, and contribute thought leadership in your areas of expertise.

In this role you will:

The anticipated appointment range for this role is $152,325 to $177,713 (actual salary will be dependent on your skills and experience).
