Job summary

McConnell Dowell in Auckland is looking for a Digital Engineering Technician to join our head office team. You will develop 3D models and manage design documentation to support multi-disciplinary civil projects across tender to execution.

Role requires a Diploma/ Degree in Engineering and at least 3 years in construction, with strong REVIT, Civil3D, Inventor, AutoCAD and Navisworks skills to deliver safe, efficient digital solutions.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry with exposure to site and construction activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative detailed solutions to technical issues.
  • Knowledge of NZ and international codes including ISO 19650 and Safety in Design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage 3D models to support temporary and permanent works designs.
  • Produce and manage design and modelling documentation per the management system.
  • Coordinate inputs from project stakeholders in a federated model using common data environments.
  • Develop modelling information such as earthworks, sequencing, and construction methodology.
  • Maintain modelling libraries and support digital modelling across projects.
  • Assist with pre-qualifications, bids, and project visualisations.

We now have an opportunity for a Digital Engineering Technician to join the McConnell Dowell Family at our Head office in Auckland.

Reporting to the Digital Engineering Manager the Digital Engineering Technician role is responsible for providing support to the engineering team across multi-disciplined civil engineering projects ranging from infrastructure transportation, roading, structural, and water & wastewater, throughout the entire project cycle from tender to execution.

About the role
  • Develop and manage 3D models to support temporary and permanent works designs in line with the Digital Engineering Execution Plan.
  • Produce and manage design and modelling documentation and deliverables in line with the McConnell Dowell management system.
  • Manage and document inputs from project stakeholders in a federated model using common data environments.
  • Develop associated modelling information such as earthworks and excavation sequencing, construction sequencing and construction methodology.
  • Develop, utilise and maintain modelling libraries.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate safety and environmental hazards that may arise during the fabrication, installation and use of temporary and permanent works. Design and model the works to reduce to as low as reasonably practicable such safety and environmental hazards.
  • Prepare documentation and presentation material for pre-qualifications, bids and projects including visualisations.
  • Provide feedback to the design and project personnel on construction details and technical documentation.
  • Assist the Engineering, bid and delivery teams in the use of digital modelling techniques and software.
  • Required for site work or to support projects out of Auckland when necessary.
What we’ll need from you
  • Diploma/ Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the construction industry with exposure to site and construction activities in general and temporary works.
  • Demonstrated capability in development of innovative detailed solutions to technical, complex issues.
  • Competent understanding of relevant New Zealand and international codes and standards including ISO 19650, national guidelines for Digital Engineering and the Safety in Design process.
  • Listens and takes personal responsibility for accurately communicating information and expressing ideas and innovations in a clear and concise manner, using appropriate means.
  • Plans and organizes their own time and tasks, correctly undertaking activities to meet objectives.
  • Works effectively in a team to achieve team objectives. Demonstrates a flexible approach to changing situations, requirements and priorities. Remains effective and resilient in the face of challenge.
  • Strong oral and written presentation ability linked with sound relationship and integrity record.
  • Competent in the use of relevant software such as MS Teams, Office and Outlook.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in BIM relevant software such as REVIT, Civil3D, Inventor, Advance Steel, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
