Job summary

The University of Auckland seeks an Editor – Digital Content to shape and publish stories across video, photography, podcasting and other digital formats. It is a hands-on role taking stories from concept through to filming, editing, production and publication.

You will work with academics, media advisers and digital specialists to showcase research and ideas, while exploring AI, platforms, and new storytelling approaches for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in multimedia storytelling, journalism, communications, digital media, video production or a related field.
• Proven experience creating high-quality digital and multimedia content, particularly video, photography, podcasting and digital publishing.
• Strong technical skills in video production, photography, editing and digital content production, with the ability to take a story from idea through to publication.
• Good understanding of how people consume digital content and how to adapt stories for different audiences, platforms and channels.
• Sound editorial judgement and a strong eye for accuracy, accessibility, detail and quality.
• Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the confidence to work with academics, researchers, professional staff and communications specialists.
• A genuine interest in digital trends, emerging technologies, AI, analytics, platforms and new ways of telling stories.
• The ability to work independently, take initiative and make sound decisions in a complex organisation.

Responsibilities

• Create compelling digital stories across video, photography, podcasting, and other multimedia formats.
• Find and develop stories that support University priorities, media opportunities, reputation, and strategic communications.
• Take stories from concept to publication, including filming, photography, audio recording, video editing, production, and digital publishing.
• Keeping up with digital trends, emerging technologies, AI, platforms and changing audience behaviours.
• Provide digital and multimedia advice, helping colleagues develop content that is engaging, accessible, and fit for purpose.
