Job summary

Selwyn District Council in New Zealand is seeking a Development Engineering Technical Advisor to coordinate development engineering inputs and provide technical advice for land development processes.   • Experience in a coordination or administration role within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing invoices and complex receipting processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High digital literacy and confidence using modern business systems and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as the first point of contact for Development Engineering enquiries and providing technical advice to internal and external customers.
  • Coordinating Engineering Acceptances, Section 224 Certificates, and 3 Waters Servicing Certificates.
  • Managing development engineering inputs into PIMs, LIMs, resource consents, flood assessment certificates, and building consent applications.
  • Coordinating street naming, property numbering, and addressing processes.
  • Maintaining accurate records, registers, and system information.
  • Supporting process improvements and helping identify smarter ways of working.
  • Managing invoicing and financial administration associated with development engineering applications.
  • Building strong relationships with developers, consultants, contractors, and Council stakeholder

Join Selwyn District Council as our Development Engineering Technical Advisor. Use your construction or infrastructure coordination experience to coordinate development engineering input and approvals for the various land development processes, provide technical advice, and support the delivery of quality development outcomes across one of New Zealand's fastest-growing districts

About the role

As the Development Engineering Technical Advisor, you'll be the central coordination point for a wide range of development engineering activities. Working closely with the Engineering & Stakeholder Manager and wider team, you'll help ensure applications, approvals, customer enquiries, and technical processes are managed efficiently and professionally.

Your responsibilities will include:

About you

You are a proactive and solutions-focused coordinator who enjoys balancing technical detail with exceptional customer service.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in a coordination or administration role within the construction, engineering, or infrastructure sector.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Experience managing invoices and complex receipting processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High digital literacy and confidence using modern business systems and technology.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to problem solve.
  • A collaborative approach and a drive to continuously improve processes.
  • Experience in local government, financial reporting, budgeting, procurement, or a relevant engineering/construction qualification would be advantageous.
