Job summary

Horizon Energy Group (HEG) – Whakatāne, North Island, is seeking an experienced engineering professional to deliver design, estimating and project management services for electricity distribution projects. Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years' experience within the electricity distribution industry
  • Experience in project management, contract administration and contractor coordination
  • Strong knowledge of overhead network design, with exposure to underground design and cost estimating
  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills
  • Experience using engineering and business systems such as COLDNet, Neara, LIDAR, ERP platforms and Microsoft applications
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving ability and a strong customer focus

Responsibilities

  • Preparing detailed network designs, cost estimates and project documentation for overhead and underground distribution projects
  • Managing projects from initial concept through to completion, including scheduling, budgeting and reporting
  • Coordinating contractors, stakeholders and service providers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Conducting site assessments, audits and quality checks to ensure compliance with company and industry standards
  • Supporting customer applications for new supplies, capacity upgrades and subdivision developments
  • Maintaining strong customer relationships and delivering responsive, professional service outcomes
  • Contributing to health, safety and continuous improvement initiatives across the business

About the role:

Based in Whakatāne, this role is responsible for providing engineering design, estimating and project management services for electricity distribution projects. You'll support new customer connections, network upgrades, subdivisions and internal capital works while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with industry standards.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing detailed network designs, cost estimates and project documentation for overhead and underground distribution projects
  • Managing projects from initial concept through to completion, including scheduling, budgeting and reporting
  • Coordinating contractors, stakeholders and service providers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Conducting site assessments, audits and quality checks to ensure compliance with company and industry standards

About you:

You are an experienced design or electrical engineering professional who enjoys solving complex problems, managing projects and building strong relationships with customers and stakeholders. You combine technical expertise with commercial awareness and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes.

You'll also bring:

  • 3 to 5 years' experience within the electricity distribution industry
  • Tertiary engineering qualifications, preferably a Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Experience in project management, contract administration and contractor coordination
  • Strong knowledge of overhead network design, with exposure to underground design and cost estimating
  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills
  • Experience using engineering and business systems such as COLDNet, Neara, LIDAR, ERP platforms and Microsoft applications
  • Sound judgement, problem-solving ability and a strong customer focus
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively within a team
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence
