As Deputy Charge Sonographer, you will play a key role in supporting the Charge Sonographer to ensure the delivery of a high‑quality, patient‑centred ultrasound service. You will work closely with an experienced and dedicated sonography team, helping to foster a positive culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and clinical excellence.

This position combines advanced clinical practice with meaningful leadership responsibilities. You will deputise for the Charge Sonographer when required, providing support across staffing, equipment management, quality systems, relationships with referrers and funders, and the day‑to‑day operation of the service. You will also contribute to the mentoring, development, and success of the wider sonography team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high‑quality ultrasound examinations using safe and evidence‑based practices.
  • Supporting the ongoing development and wellbeing of the sonography team.
  • Ensuring imaging protocols remain accurate, current, and aligned with best practice.
  • Assisting in the efficient management of ultrasound resources to maximise patient access.
  • Supporting quality assurance and quality control activities to maintain the highest service standards.
  • Working collaboratively with radiologists, referrers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve the best outcomes for patients.

We are looking for an experienced, clinically confident Sonographer who is ready to step into a leadership role. You will bring:

  • Ultrasound Scope of Practice with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Board and a current Annual Practising Certificate
  • Excellent ultrasound imaging skills and advanced knowledge of Ultrasound Safety Guidelines and Procedures
  • Knowledge of current quality assurance protocols and medico‑legal responsibilities in the delivery of imaging services
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with patients, referrers and clinical teams
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and development capability, with the ability to oversee the training of staff
  • A genuine commitment to continuous improvement and delivering exceptional patient outcomes
