Job summary

FindIT Recruitment in Auckland seeks an experienced Datacom Database Specialist to support a legacy modernisation programme. You will analyse and reverse engineer the current IBM mainframe database environment, mapping structures, access patterns and dependencies to support a migration to VSAM.

You will collaborate with architects, developers, testers and business stakeholders to produce technical specifications, migration strategies and data integrity controls, ensuring business functionality

Qualifications

• Commercial experience administering, designing and supporting enterprise database environments within IBM mainframe ecosystems.
• Strong understanding of mainframe database structures, storage mechanisms and performance considerations.
• Experience with VSAM, MVS/zOS, JCL and batch processing environments.
• Experience supporting legacy database migration, modernisation or reverse engineering initiatives.
• Knowledge of database utilities, recovery processes, data extraction and conversion techniques.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex legacy environments.
• Experience producing technical specifications, database mapping documents and migration artefacts.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
• A detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on data integrity, quality and migration risk management.

Your New Role

We're seeking an experienced Datacom Database Specialist to support the migration of a legacy Mantec application. You'll analyse and reverse engineer the existing database environment, developing a deep understanding of database structures, schemas, access patterns and application dependencies to support a migration to VSAM.

Working closely with architects, developers, testers and business stakeholders, you'll produce technical documentation, define migration strategies, and help ensure data integrity and business functionality are maintained throughout the programme.
