Job summary

Genesis is shaping the future of data and AI in Aotearoa. The Data Operations Manager will lead the teams, platforms and partnerships that keep our enterprise data and AI ecosystem reliable, secure and performing at its best.

This is a high-visibility leadership role aligning operational excellence with strategic platform thinking. You’ll build and guide platform roadmaps, drive ITIL-based governance, and partner with Databricks, Microsoft and other collaborators to deliver outstanding service

Qualifications

• Leadership experience in Data and AI Operations or related platform teams.
• Strong knowledge of Azure data tech, especially Databricks and Power BI.
• Experience in developing and delivering platform roadmaps and operational strategies.
• Solid understanding of ITIL, service management and governance.
• Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams.
• Strong commercial and vendor/partner relationship management.
• Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and influence stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead operation and improvement of enterprise data and AI platforms in the Databricks ecosystem.
• Drive reliability, availability, and performance across Databricks, Power BI, DataOps and MLOps.
• Define and deliver platform roadmaps supporting modernization and scalability.
• Lead service governance, incident management, and escalation per ITIL.
• Build and lead high-performing technical teams with ownership culture.
• Partner with Databricks, Microsoft and other delivery partners for outcomes.
• Translate business needs into operational priorities and platform investments.

What You’ll Do

Help shape the future of data and AI at Genesis. As our Data Operations Manager, you’ll lead the teams, platforms and partnerships that keep our enterprise data and AI ecosystem reliable, secure and performing at its best. This is a highly visible leadership role that combines operational excellence with strategic platform thinking as Genesis accelerates its data modernisation and AI adoption journey.

• Lead the operation and continuous improvement of our enterprise data and AI platforms across the Databricks ecosystem.
• Champion reliability, availability and performance across Databricks, Power BI, DataOps and MLOps.
• Define and deliver platform strategies and roadmaps that support modernisation, scalability and future capability.
• Lead service governance, incident management and escalation, aligned with ITIL practices.
• Build and lead high-performing technical teams, creating a culture of ownership, collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Partner with Databricks, Microsoft and other strategic delivery partners to achieve outstanding service outcomes.
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, translating business needs into clear operational priorities and platform investments.

What You’ll Bring

You’re an experienced Tech and people leader who knows what it takes to operate business-critical data and AI platforms and how to keep evolving them. You combine sound technical judgement with strong service leadership and can bring internal teams, stakeholders and strategic partners together around a shared direction.

You’ll Also Bring

• Leadership experience within Data and AI Operations, Data and AI Platforms, Data and AI Engineering support or a closely related function.
• Strong knowledge of Azure data technologies, particularly Databricks and Power BI.
• Experience developing and delivering platform roadmaps and operational strategies.
• A strong understanding of ITIL, service management, incident management and operational governance.
• A proven ability to lead and develop technical teams.
• Strong commercial and relationship-management skills, with experience managing vendors and strategic partners.
• The ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels.
