Why You’d Like It

An opportunity for an experienced WhereScape Data Engineer to take ownership of a critical enterprise migration project. This contract engagement offers an immediate high-impact focus through to 18 December 2026, with the flexibility of remote working and strong prospects for extended project involvement as the organisation’s data strategy evolves.

The Story

A major national enterprise is undertaking a pivotal server migration for its core WhereScape environment. With an outgoing specialist transitioning out, there is an immediate requirement for an expert practitioner to step in, complete a rapid knowledge transfer, and maintain seamless business-as-usual operations while driving the environment upgrade, patching, and production cutover.

Company Profile

This organisation is a key public sector enterprise responsible for managing vital infrastructure and service networks across New Zealand. Operating at scale, its data branch manages extensive enterprise data warehousing platforms that support critical operational decision-making and national strategy.

Your Role
  • Supporting the end-to-end migration of the existing WhereScape environment to a new server platform.
  • Managing WhereScape patching, testing, troubleshooting, and production cutover.
  • Maintaining uninterrupted BAU continuity across existing data pipelines.
  • Rapidly absorbing platform context and design patterns from the departing specialist.
  • Ensuring platform stability across the underlying SQL Server and Azure SQL data warehouse environments.
Benefits
  • Flexible working arrangements with remote options available nationwide (preferably based near hubs in Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch).
  • Immediate initial contract running through to 18 December 2026.
  • High potential for extension into broader modernization projects, particularly as the technology stack integrates platforms like Databricks.
  • Significant autonomy to manage and own an enterprise production platform.
Your Fit
  • Strong hands‑on WhereScape engineering background, with specific experience in WhereScape RED.
  • Demonstrated capability delivering WhereScape upgrades, patching, or environment migrations.
  • Solid technical proficiency with SQL Server and/or Azure SQL data warehousing.
  • Proven ability to work independently in complex enterprise settings and step into an inherited codebase with confidence.
  • Exposure to or experience with Databricks is desirable and highly advantageous for long‑term contract extensions.
