Job summary

UniServices, the University of Auckland’s research commercialisation and growth team, is seeking a Data Analyst to enable data-driven decision-making and support strategic initiatives across UniServices. You will work with the Finance Lead and Senior Leadership Team to deliver accurate reporting, insights, and process improvements.

Responsibilities include dashboards, regular/ad hoc reports, data analysis, and stakeholder collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in business/financial analysis or similar.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools (Power BI/Tableau) is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and communications.
  • Ability to manage stakeholder relationships with accuracy and clarity.

  • Develop and maintain key business performance metrics and dashboards.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Analyse financial and operational data to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Design and maintain interactive dashboards using BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Automate reporting processes to improve efficiency.
  • Gather and document business requirements for reporting and process improvements.
  • Conduct process analysis and recommend optimised workflows.
  • Provide market intelligence and benchmarking data for strategic initiatives.
  • Support project planning, UAT, and change management activities.
  • Prepare concise, high-quality data summaries and governance reporting.

Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

As Data Analyst, you will enable data-driven decision-making and support strategic initiatives across UniServices. This role combines analytical expertise with business insight to deliver accurate reporting, actionable insights, and process improvements. You’ll work closely with the Finance Lead and Senior Leadership Team to provide financial analysis and commercial intelligence that informs strategic decisions.

This is a Permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday) with a salary range of $93,000-$103,000 per annum plus Incentives and benefits, depending on experience.

You are a detail-oriented and analytical professional who can turn complex data into meaningful insights. You thrive in a collaborative environment and have strong communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders.

What you’ll bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in business analysis, financial analysis, or a similar role.

  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is advantageous.
