Job summary

The University of Otago is recruiting a Data Analyst to support the HR data migration to Workday as part of the Our People Pathway programme. You will analyse, profile, cleanse and transform data from multiple legacy systems, ensuring accuracy for migration and validation with HR, Payroll and IT partners.

This full-time, fixed-term role (2 years) is based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, with potential for remote work and occasional travel. Salary range listed is NZD 75,631 to 80,503, with top end at 88,750.

Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing, profiling, cleansing, transforming and validating complex data for migration projects.
  • Strong data analysis and SQL skills to interrogate large datasets.
  • Experience with data processing, ETL technologies and scripting for repeatable workflows.
  • Experience with relational databases and formats including Excel, CSV, JSON and XML.
  • Strong communication with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding HR/Payroll data; Workday experience would be an advantage.

The University of Otago is transforming how we support our people.

Our People Pathway (OPP) is a major programme delivering a new Human Resources Information Management (Workday) system across the University. We are seeking a Data Analyst to support delivery of this high-impact programme.

Te mahi | The role

You will play a hands-on role in preparing the University's HR data for migration to Workday. Working as part of the Data Stream, you will analyse, profile, cleanse and transform data from multiple legacy systems, ensuring it is accurate, complete and ready for migration. Working closely with HR, Payroll, IT and implementation partners, you will investigate data quality issues and support migration, validation and reconciliation activities using modern data engineering platforms and ETL tools.

In this role you will:
  • Analyse, profile, cleanse and transform HR data for migration to Workday.
  • Develop and maintain repeatable data transformation and data processing workflows using SQL, scripting and appropriate data engineering or ETL tools.
  • Investigate and resolve data quality issues in collaboration with business stakeholders.
  • Develop data mappings, transformation rules and supporting documentation.
  • Validate, reconcile and support mock migrations and production data loads.
  • Contribute to improved data quality, migration processes and data management practices.
Qualifications:
  • Experience analysing, profiling, cleansing, transforming and validating complex data for migration or system implementation projects.
  • Strong data analysis and SQL skills, with the ability to extract and interrogate large, complex datasets.
  • Experience using data processing, ETL technologies and scripting to develop repeatable workflows for data transformation, validation and automation.
  • Experience working with relational databases and structured data formats including Excel, CSV, JSON and XML.
  • Strong Excel, analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
  • Understanding of HR and Payroll data, and experience with Workday or other enterprise HR, Payroll or ERP systems, would be an advantage.

Transformation and Improvement support the University’s success through strong programme delivery and business process improvement.

This multi-year programme spans HR, Digital, Finance and the wider University, offering the opportunity to contribute to a complex, high-profile transformation.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed term (2 years), based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin, with the possibility of extension.

We also welcome applications from candidates based elsewhere in New Zealand who are able to work remotely, with occasional travel to Dunedin as required.

The appointments range for this role is $75,631 to $80,503.

Top of range $88,750.
