Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in curating exhibitions and managing art collections
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary art, including established and emerging artists
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Experience in budget management and fundraising for exhibitions
  • Strong network within the international art world is advantageous

  • Research, identify, and select artists and artworks for exhibitions, managing all acquisition and loan agreements.
  • Conceptualize and develop exhibition narratives, including wall texts, catalogue essays, and public programming.
  • Oversee the installation and de-installation of artworks, ensuring conservation standards are met.
  • Manage the gallery's collection, including documentation, conservation, and research.
  • Engage with artists, collectors, critics, and the public, fostering relationships within the art community.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious contemporary art gallery located in Queenstown , is seeking an experienced and insightful Curator to lead their exhibition programming and collection management within the Arts & Entertainment sphere. This role requires a deep understanding of contemporary art, a keen eye for emerging talent, and the ability to develop compelling exhibitions that engage diverse audiences. You will be responsible for conceptualizing exhibition themes, selecting artists and artworks, and overseeing the installation and interpretation of exhibitions. This is a significant opportunity to shape the artistic discourse and cultural offerings of the region.
