Job summary

Carters Palmerston North is seeking a motivated Yardperson to load/unload stock, pick customer orders, and keep the yard tidy and safe while helping trade and DIY customers. The role emphasizes safe forklift work, customer service, and teamwork in a busy building-supplies environment.

Ideal candidates hold a full NZ Driver’s Licence, a forklift licence with F endorsement, and OSH certification, with a safety-first mindset.

Job description

Are you a hands-on team player who enjoys staying active and keeping things running smoothly? CARTERS Palmerston North is looking for a motivated Yardperson to join their team. In this role, you will be responsible for loading and unloading stock, picking and preparing customer orders, keeping the yard tidy and safe, and helping our trade and DIY customers get exactly what they need while delivering great customer service.

• Safely operate a forklift to load, unload trucks and move stock around the yard
• Pick, pack, and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently
• Assist customers with loading timber, building materials, and other products
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised yard
• Conduct routine forklift checks and report any maintenance issues

About You

• Current full Class 1 New Zealand Driver’s Licence
• Current Forklift Licence with F Endorsement and OSH Certification
• Proven operating experience and a strong safety-first attitude
• Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• Ability to work well in a team and take initiative
• Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling
• Previous experience in a building supplies, trade, or warehouse environment is a plus
