Job summary

New Zealand Red Cross is seeking a casual Settlement Cross Cultural Worker in Nelson to support Kayah/Karenni-speaking arrivals under the refugee quota programme. You will provide cultural and linguistic support and link clients to services, working with the Nelson Pathways to Settlement team to help families settle into their new community.

In this role you will advocate for former refugee clients, facilitate understanding of NZ society, and coordinate with service providers while upholding

Qualifications

• Speak Kayah/Karenni with general Burmese and English at least Intermediate level.
• Competent cross-language support both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy act practices.
• Knowledge and experience of the refugee journey and resettlement.

Responsibilities

• Ensure former refugee families can communicate in the NZ environment.
• Facilitate understanding of NZ society for refugees and of refugees' culture for supporters.
• Ensure appropriate linkages to service providers.
• Advocate for former refugee clients in the NZ social context.
