Job summary

Fulton Hogan is seeking an experienced Crane Operator to join our Civil Construction Team in New Zealand. You will operate crawler cranes across infrastructure projects, contribute to lift planning and safety, and work with a close-knit team to deliver results.

Based from our Christchurch/Wellington projects, you’ll travel to sites and may be required to stay away from home. Strong crawler crane experience and NZ Crane Certificates are essential.

Qualifications

  • NZ Crane Operator with Class 4 NZ drivers license and WTR endorsement.
  • Hold US27676 and US3795 or NZ Certificate in Cranes (Level 3 or 4).
  • Experience operating crawler cranes and lifting operations.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and work away from home as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate crawler cranes safely and confidently across a range of civil construction projects.
  • Complete pre-start checks, risk assessments, and contribute to toolbox meetings.
  • Prepare and follow lift plans, identifying foreseeable hazards and managing risks.
  • Ensure all lifts meet site and OEM requirements, including load, radius, and wind limits.
  • Communicate clearly with riggers, dogmen, site crews, and supervisors throughout lifting operations.
  • Undertake routine and complex lifts, including piling work where required.
  • Support the wider team by operating other plant and machinery as needed.
  • Carry out dogman tasks when required.
  • Promote health, safety, and wellbeing in every part of the job.

We're looking for an experienced Crane Operator to join our Civil Construction Team at Fulton Hogan. Based from our Ranui yard in West Auckland, you'll travel to project sites and, from time to time, may be required to work away from home.

We are looking for a Crane Operator to join our Civil Construction Team, here at Fulton Hogan in either locations of Wellington or Christchurch. You will be required to travel to and from projects and from time to time, you may be required to work away from home.

This role is all about good planning, safe lifting, and doing serious work with a team that backs each other. You'll be operating a modern crane fleet across infrastructure projects including bridges, wharves, water treatment plants, storage tanks, and pipelines. Our fleet includes 50t–280t lattice boom crawler cranes and 25t–35t rough terrain cranes.

We're especially keen to hear from people with strong crawler crane experience. If you also bring mobile crane or piling experience, even better.

Working closely with the Site Supervisor, you're the vital link to safe accident‑free crane and lifting operations, good planning, identifying foreseeable hazards and addressing risks will be detailed on your lift plans. You will be a confident communicator and enjoy being part of a small close‑knit team.
