Job summary

Downer & Company in Invercargill seeks a proactive Contract Engineer – Roadmarking to coordinate field teams and manage resources for Southland roadmarking operations. You'll liaise with clients, crews and management to ensure safe, efficient delivery of work programs.

You will lead the local team, conduct site visits, audits, and manage contract administration while striving for high quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• NZCE, Diploma, or Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Cadetship qualification.
• Excellent communication and ability to lead a locally based team.
• Organised with high accuracy in documentation and processes.
• Experience coordinating resources, schedules, reporting, and financial administration.
• A strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental best practice.
• A full driver’s licence.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Contract Engineer – Roadmarking to join our team in Invercargill. Working closely with the Roadmarking Manager, you'll play a critical role in supporting the delivery of our Southland Roadmarking operations. This is a hands‑on coordination role where you'll be the link between field crews, clients, and management, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You'll be responsible for leading the Southland based team ensuring our teams have everything they need to successfully deliver work programmes. You'll be someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and can confidently build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

No two days are the same. Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing resources, programmes, traffic management requirements, and inventory to support efficient contract delivery.
• Conducting site visits, network inspections, and quality, safety, and traffic management audits to ensure compliance and performance standards are met.
• Coordinating day‑to‑day contract administration, reporting, financial documentation, and cost capture processes.
• Building strong client and stakeholder relationships through regular communication, meetings, and operational support.
• Promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture while driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and customer service outcomes.

• A relevant qualification such as NZCE, Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering or substantially completed Engineering Cadetship

• Excellent organisational, time management, and problem‑solving skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Experience coordinating resources, schedules, reporting, and financial administration processes
• A strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental best practice
• A full driver’s licence
