Job summary

Downer in Invercargill seeks a proactive Contract Engineer – Roadmarking to support delivery of Southland roadmarking operations. You will coordinate field crews, clients, and management to ensure safe, on-time, high-quality outcomes.

This hands-on role requires organisation, strong communication, and problem-solving as you manage resources, site visits, audits, and reporting while promoting Downer’s Zero Harm culture. Travel within the lower South Island may be required.

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification such as NZCE, Diploma, Bachelor of Engineering or substantially completed Engineering Cadetship.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities for a locally based team.
• Strong organisational, time management and problem-solving skills with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead Southland-based team and coordinate field crews, clients and management.
• Manage resources, programmes, traffic management, and inventory for contract delivery.
• Conduct site visits, inspections, audits, and ensure safety and quality standards.
• Coordinate administration, reporting and cost capture processes.
• Foster client relationships and promote continuous safety and service improvements.

We are seeking a proactive and organised Contract Engineer – Roadmarking to join our team in Invercargill. Working closely with the Roadmarking Manager, you'll play a critical role in supporting the delivery of our Southland Roadmarking operations. This is a hands-on coordination role where you'll be the link between field crews, clients, and management, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You'll be responsible for leading the Southland based team ensuring our teams have everything they need to successfully deliver work programmes. You'll be someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and can confidently build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

No two days are the same. Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing resources, programmes, traffic management requirements, and inventory to support efficient contract delivery.
• Conducting site visits, network inspections, and quality, safety, and traffic management audits to ensure compliance and performance standards are met.
• Coordinating day-to-day contract administration, reporting, financial documentation, and cost capture processes.
• Building strong client and stakeholder relationships through regular communication, meetings, and operational support.
• Promoting Downer's Zero Harm culture while driving continuous improvement across safety, quality, productivity, and customer service outcomes.

• Experience coordinating resources, schedules, reporting, and financial administration processes
• A strong commitment to health, safety, quality, and environmental best practice
• A full driver's licence
