Job summary

Nelson Marlborough Health is seeking a dedicated Interventional Cardiologist to join Nelson Hospital’s Cardiology Department. You will contribute to a 24/7 STEMI service, utilise advanced imaging (FFR, IVUS, OCT), and participate in a 1:6 general on-call and 1:3 interventional roster.

Experience in pacemaker implantation is advantageous, though not essential. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient-centred care in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Sub specialist training recognised by cardiac society in invasive cardiac procedures and PCI.
• FANZCP Fellowship or equivalent required.
• Eligible for Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

About the Role

Nelson Marlborough is looking for a dedicated Interventional Cardiologist including 24/7 STEMI care to join our multidisciplinary team who are focused on providing excellence in Paradise.

The interventional service is equipped with advanced imaging and physiological assessment technologies, including fractional flow reserve (FFR), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Experience in pacemaker implantation is not essential but would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will participate in a 1:6 general cardiology on-call roster, as well as 1:3 interventional cardiology roster. This provides an opportunity to contribute to an established acute cardiac service while maintaining a broad general cardiology practice.

You’ll be part of a collegial and supportive team of experienced physicians with diverse subspecialty interests. Our team works closely with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and primary care providers to ensure an integrated approach to patient-centred care.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Nelson Hospital’s Cardiology Department is a growing and highly supportive unit comprising specialist cardiologists, cardiac sonographers, cardiac physiologists, nurse specialists, and registrars. The team provides a broad range of non-invasive and invasive services including acute coronary care, diagnostic imaging, ambulatory monitoring, heart failure management, and inpatient consultations.

Our service is well integrated with tertiary partners, ensuring seamless access to advanced interventional and electrophysiology services when required. We pride ourselves on a collegial environment, strong interdisciplinary collaboration, and a commitment to continued service development to meet the needs of our community.

The cardiology service has a reputation for boxing above its weight ranking highly in national league tables. We have highly functional multidisciplinary team based on distributed leadership model that has access to not only excellent interventional services with rapid access to intervention but also highly functional cardiac imaging service that offers CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI as well as the standard echo and transoesophageal echocardiography. Brady pacing, ICD and advanced pacing modalities are also onsite. Our team puts an emphasis on collegiality and trust amongst the team, and we work hard to protect this culture.

• Bring medical expertise to an acute secondary care hospital and contribute to critical care to the patients in the Nelson region.
• Have sub specialist training recognised by cardiac society in invasive cardiac procedures and percutaneous coronary intervention.
• Hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (FANZCP), or equivalent.
• Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration of Cardiology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
