Job summary

The Canterbury Regional Forensic Mental Health Service in Christchurch is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment within inpatient, community, Courts, and Corrections settings.

You will join a multidisciplinary team of five experienced Forensic Psychiatrists, contribute to clinical leadership, teaching, supervision, and service development, with comprehensive support around forensic practice and legal processes.

Qualifications

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
• Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Psychiatry.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to high-quality patient-centred care and clinical leadership.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in healthcare practice.
• Forensic psychiatry experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment across inpatient, community, Courts, and Corrections.
• Contribute to clinical leadership, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in teaching and supervision of staff and trainees.
• Work within a well-supported multidisciplinary team in a collaborative environment.
