Job summary

SouthRoads Ltd in Southland is seeking a Contract Manager to lead our Construction Siteworks crew across highway rehabilitation projects. The role focuses on hands-on leadership, delivering projects to spec, and keeping teams motivated and safe.

You’ll oversee labour, plant and subcontractors, ensuring quality, budget control and timely delivery. You’ll be relied on to apply NZTA and local government requirements while driving a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on roading experience required.
• Strong knowledge of NZTA specs and local government requirements.
• Proven leadership ability and team motivation.
• Able to hit the ground running and stay hands-on when needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead highway construction and road rehabilitation projects in Southland.
• Apply NZTA specs, Southland District Council and Invercargill City Council requirements.
• Coordinate labour, plant and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule.
• Control onsite quality and health and safety practices.
• Keep project budgets on track and report variances.
• Ensure safety and wellbeing of all site personnel.

About The role

You’ll be running the show on highway and rehab work, including:

• Highway construction and road rehabilitation
• Applying NZTA specs, Southland District Council (SDC) and Invercargill City Council (ICC) requirements
• Coordinating labour, plant and subcontractors
• Controlling onsite quality and health and safety
• Keeping budgets on track
• Making sure everyone gets home safe, every day

About you

• Real, hands-on roading experience, highway/rehab work is your bread and butter
• A solid grip on NZTA specs and local government requirements
• Leadership that people actually want to follow
