Job summary

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) / Waka Kotahi in Palmerston North is seeking Compliance Officers to join our teams. You will conduct audits, assess compliance, and support risk-based decisions to improve safety in commercial transport.

We offer on-going training, a competitive salary, 5 weeks annual leave, and flexible/ supportive working options. A driver license is required and travel is a key part of the role.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification or experience in a regulatory environment would be beneficial.
• Operational regulatory experience or relevant technical expertise would be an advantage.
• Ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong risk assessment and analytical capabilities.
• Attention to detail and robust documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, undertake, and make decisions on audits and reviews of regulated parties.
• Collect, analyse, and evaluate information to identify non-compliance or emerging risk.
• Prepare clear, well-reasoned assessments, findings, and recommendations with evidence.
• Escalate complex or high-risk matters to the Senior Compliance Officer with context.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure information management compliance.
• Travel across regions to engage with operators.
