Job summary

Canterbury Health Laboratories is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join the Blood Test Centre team in Christchurch. You will collect blood samples from inpatients and outpatients, ensuring a positive patient experience and high-quality service.

You must hold a current APC as a Phlebotomist and demonstrate competence in blood collection, with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills to support a collaborative laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• APC (Medical Sciences Council of NZ) must be current and held as a Phlebotomist.
• Demonstrated experience and competence in collecting blood samples from patients.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples safely and efficiently with minimal discomfort to patients.
• Ensure samples are collected into correct containers and handled appropriately for tests.
• Deliver samples to the correct location for processing within clinical timeframes.
• Provide kind, courteous and respectful service to patients and staff.
• Protect patient privacy and maintain confidentiality.
• Register samples accurately in the LIS system and process electronic orders.
• Maintain knowledge of laboratory tests and codes; adapt to new technology and processes.
• Participate in meetings, training and continuous improvement.
