Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Richmond is seeking a Patient Support & Security Worker (Casual) to join the Older Persons Mental Health Admission Unit at Alexandra Hospital. You will help provide a welcoming, safe environment for patients and whānau, working with the nursing team to meet care needs.

Flexibility is essential to cover afternoons, nights, and weekends; training will be provided, and prior security or health care experience is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and whānau.
• Experience in security, healthcare, or related field preferred but not essential – training provided.
• Good level of physical fitness and reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a welcoming, safe environment within the Older Persons Mental Health Unit.
• De-escalate challenging situations and support the clinical team as directed.
• Relate well to patients and visitors, supporting a therapeutic environment.
