Job summary

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Waikato is seeking a Community Support Worker to join Te Whakawhitinga, a community based mental health service. You will work in a team that supports taangata hapori/ tangata whaiora to improve health and social outcomes, within housing stability and access to resources.

This role requires whānau centred, non-judgemental practice, strong relationship building, and the ability to collaborate with Māori, Pasifika and other agencies.

Qualifications

• Follow directions from registered staff to enthusiastically offer practical support for tangata hapori/ taangata whaiora to achieve good health and social outcomes.
• Excellent rapport and relationship building skills.
• Whānau centred, collaborative and partnership approach.
• Non-judgemental and empathetic.
• Competency with te ao Maaori, tikanga, and te reo Maaori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
• Experience working in a mental health, community health or primary care setting.
• Experience working with Māori and Pasifika groups.
• Highly developed interpersonal communication and negotiation skills including demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues to achieve required outcomes.

About the Role

We are seeking a community support worker to work in a community based team - Te Whakawhitinga.

Te Whakawhitinga is a co‑ordinated mental health service aligned to the Te Whatu Ora Waiora vision and underpinned by Kotahitanga. The Kotahitanga values of unity, togetherness, shared vision, working together, trust, relationships, collaboration and integrations are fundamental to the service model of Te Whakawhitinga.

We intend to meet the needs of taangata hapori/ taangata whaiora across the housing continuum, who are experiencing health, social and environmental issues that could put tenancies at risk or have resulted in homelessness.

We will do this by being a taangata hapori/ tangata whaiora led service that;

• helps a person identify their goals and aspirations that will achieve mauri ora
• supports access to community resources and services that will meet these goals
• works in close partnership with tangata hapori/taangata whaiora and other agencies in a transparent and coordinated way
