Job summary

Cordis, Auckland by Langham Hospitality Group is seeking a Commis Chef to join our Kitchen team in Auckland. This part-time role offers hands-on experience in a luxury hotel environment, primarily within Eight Restaurant, and the opportunity to own your section in a busy kitchen.

You will work across seven days, including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays, with a focus on quality, pace, and consistent presentation.

Qualifications

• Previous kitchen or culinary experience in a professional kitchen.
• Passion for food and desire to develop culinary skills.
• Good understanding of food safety and HACCP requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, cooking and presentation of menu items.
• Prepare food according to standard recipes, weights and portion sizes.
• Ensure food quality and presentation meet hotel standards.
• Support senior chefs and the wider Kitchen team during preparation and service.
• Ensure dishes are prepared on time.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements at all times.
• Check food items and ingredients to minimise waste.
• Understand menu items and assist with dietary requirements.
• Support other areas of the Kitchen when required.

Commis Chef - Part Time

(Please note that you must already have work rights in New Zealand to be considered for this role)

We are looking for an experienced Chef de Partie to join our Kitchen team, working primarily within Eight Restaurant. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of your section in a busy five-star hotel environment and contribute to the consistently high standard of food our guests expect from one of Cordis Auckland’s key dining outlets.

What You Will Be Doing

• Assisting with the preparation, cooking and presentation of menu items
• Preparing food in line with standard recipes, weights and portion requirements
• Ensuring food quality and presentation consistently meet hotel standards
• Supporting senior chefs and the wider Kitchen team during preparation and service
• Ensuring dishes are prepared accurately and on time
• Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working environment
• Following food safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements at all times
• Checking food items and ingredients to minimise waste where possible
• Understanding menu items and assisting with dietary requirements
• Supporting other areas of the Kitchen when required

Our Ideal Candidate

• Previous kitchen or culinary experience within a professional kitchen environment
• A genuine passion for food and an interest in continuing to develop your culinary skills
• Strong food preparation and presentation skills with excellent attention to detail
• A good understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP requirements
• The ability to work efficiently in a busy and fast-paced kitchen environment
• A proactive attitude with a strong sense of urgency
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• The ability to work effectively as part of a diverse Kitchen team
• Flexibility to work rostered shifts across seven days, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays
