Job summary

Auckland City New Image Outlet Limited is looking for a capable Retail Manager to lead day-to-day store operations, drive sales, and ensure high standards of customer service. The role includes product selection, staff rostering, training, stock management and promotional activities, with a focus on engaging Asian-market customers and communicating in English and Mandarin.

This full-time position offers 30 guaranteed hours per week and aNZD 35.00–38.00 per hour, depending on experience.

POSITION: Retail Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

Hours: 30 guaranteed paid hours per week, excluding unpaid meal breaks.

Salary: NZD $ 35.00 – $ 38.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience

About the Role

• We are seeking a capable Retail Manager to organise and control the day-to-day operations of our retail store and support the effective delivery of retail sales and customer service.
• The successful candidate will be actively involved in retail sales, product selection, product mix, staff rostering, staff training and supervision, stock management and retail promotional activities.
• The role will also support the store's engagement with customers from Asian markets. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively in English and Mandarin Chinese, with Korean or Japanese language ability preferred.
• When tourism groups or other organised customer groups visit the store, the Retail Manager will welcome customers, present and explain relevant products, provide recommendations and assist with retail sales.

Key Responsibilities

• Organise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the retail store.
• Actively participate in frontline retail sales and customer service.
• Serve domestic and international customers and provide product information and recommendations.
• Support retail sales and customer service for customers from Asian markets.
• Welcome and assist tourism groups and other organised customer groups when they visit the store.
• Present and explain products and facilitate retail sales.
• Assist with product selection, product mix and purchasing recommendations.
• Monitor customer demand, purchasing patterns and retail sales performance.
• Identify products and product ranges suitable for different customer groups and markets.
• Prepare and coordinate staff rosters.
• Train, supervise and support retail sales staff.
• Plan and implement seasonal, product and in-store promotional activities.
• Monitor stock levels and coordinate replenishment.
• Maintain product presentation and store standards.
• Monitor customer feedback and retail sales performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve sales, product selection and customer service.
• Ensure workplace health and safety requirements are followed.

Skills & Experience — Essential

• At least 1 year of relevant experience in gift shop, souvenir or tourism retail, or a closely related retail sales environment.
• Experience in retail sales and customer service.
• Strong retail selling and customer service skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with domestic and international customers.
• Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

Language Skills

• Good proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Korean or Japanese language ability is preferred.
• Experience communicating with Asian customers is advantageous.

Qualifications & Additional Skills

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Retail Management, Marketing , Business, Economics, Commerce, or a related discipline is advantageous.
• Understanding of customer purchasing behaviour, market trends and retail sales performance is advantageous.
• Experience working with international visitors or in tourism-focused retail is advantageous.
• Knowledge of New Zealand products is advantageous.
