Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer/Setter to join the manufacturing team. The role focuses on programming, setting, proving and optimising CNC machinery to ensure high-quality components meet customer specifications.

Responsibilities include creating and refining PowerMill programs, setting up CNC machining centres and lathes, and improving cycle times, tool life and machine utilisation. A strong eye for reading drawings and supporting production will be essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience programming and setting CNC machinery.
• Experience with CNC machining centres and/or CNC lathes.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of GD&T and machining tolerances.
• Knowledge of G-Code.
• Strong understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds and machining processes.
• Experience with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators).
• Good computer skills and the ability to manage programs and documentation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Independent worker who collaborates well with a team.

We are looking for an experienced CNC Programmer / Setter to join our manufacturing team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in producing high-quality components, enjoys solving machining challenges, and is always looking for ways to improve efficiency and productivity.

You will be responsible for programming, setting, proving and optimising CNC machinery, ensuring components are manufactured safely, accurately and to customer specifications.

What You'll Be Doing

• Create, modify and optimise CNC programs using Autodesk PowerMill, offline editing and machine controls.


• Set up and operate CNC machining centres and CNC lathes.


• Develop machining strategies to improve cycle times, tool life and machine utilisation.


• Design, build and improve workholding fixtures.


• Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and specifications.


• Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters and workholding methods.


• Load and prove out new programs and complete first-off inspections.


• Troubleshoot setup and machining issues and make necessary adjustments.


• Provide technical support to CNC operators and assist with problem-solving.


• Monitor machine performance and identify opportunities to reduce downtime and improve productivity.


• Carry out first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment.


• Investigate quality issues and assist with non-conformance resolution.


• Work closely with Production Planning, Quality, Engineering and Maintenance to meet production requirements.


• Contribute to continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.


• Maintain a safe, clean and organised work environment.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with:

• Proven experience programming and setting CNC machinery.


• Experience with CNC machining centres and/or CNC lathes.


• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.


• Good understanding of GD&T and machining tolerances.


• Knowledge of G-Code.


• Strong understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds and machining processes.


• Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges and dial indicators.


• Good computer skills and the ability to manage programs and documentation.


• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


• The ability to work independently while being a strong team player.


• A positive, reliable and proactive approach to work.

It Would Be Great If You Also Have

• A trade qualification in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Machining or Toolmaking.


• Experience with PowerMill, Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM or similar CAD/CAM software.


• Experience with macro programming or higher-level language.


• Experience with Fanuc, Mazak, DMG Mori or similar machine controls.


• Experience machining aluminium.


• Experience with multi-axis machining, particularly 3+1 machining.


• A current driver's licence.
