Job summary

Autolathing Engineering Ltd is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer/Operator for our Wairau Valley operations in Auckland. The role combines programming and hands-on machining to produce precision components to exacting specs in a safe, modern workshop.

You will program CNC lathes via CAM software and manual methods, set up tooling, monitor production and perform quality checks with precision instruments.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience operating and programming CNC lathes with live tooling in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in CAM software packages (Gibbscam or equivalent).
  • Solid understanding of G-code and M-code programming languages.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools and quality control procedures.
  • Sound mechanical knowledge of metalworking principles and lathe tooling.
  • Able to work independently while communicating with team members.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

  • Program CNC lathes from drawings and specs using CAM software and manual methods.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathe equipment with correct tooling and fixtures.
  • Monitor production runs to ensure quality and identify deviations.
  • Perform quality checks using calipers, micrometers and gauges.
  • Maintain records of production runs and machine parameters.
  • Troubleshoot programming and operational issues to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC lathes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and keep a clean workspace.

Autolathing Engineering Ltd is seeking a skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Operator to join our team in Wairau Valley, Auckland. This is a full-time position that combines both programming expertise and hands‑on machining experience. You will play a crucial role in our manufacturing operations, responsible for programming and operating our CNC lathes to produce precision components to exacting specifications. This position is integral to maintaining our reputation for quality and efficiency in the engineering and manufacturing sector.

Key responsibilities
  • Program CNC lathes using CAM software and manual programming techniques to produce components from technical drawings and specifications
  • Set up and operate CNC lathe equipment, ensuring all tooling, fixtures and work-holding devices are correctly installed and calibrated
  • Monitor machine operations during production runs to ensure quality standards are met and identify any issues or deviations
  • Perform regular quality checks and measurements using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometres and gauges
  • Maintain detailed records of production runs, machine parameters and any adjustments made during the manufacturing process
  • Troubleshoot and resolve programming and operational issues to minimise downtime and maintain production schedules
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC lathe equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to continuously improve machining processes and efficiency
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean, organised work environment
What we're looking for
