Job summary

PKF Tauranga is seeking a Senior Client Accounting & Tax Manager to lead a dedicated accounting team in Tauranga. You will oversee client accounting, tax compliance, and ensure accurate, timely service while developing staff capabilities.

The role requires strong NZ accounting and tax knowledge, with CA/CPA as preferred qualifications. You will manage client onboarding, relationships and drive process improvements in a dynamic practice.

Qualifications

• Strong experience in financial accounts and tax compliance within New Zealand.
• CA or CPA qualification preferred.
• Experience leading, coaching or supervising accounting staff.
• Proficiency with Xero.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of accountants.
• Plan and manage workflow to meet client commitments and IRD deadlines.

About the role

You’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day leadership and delivery of the client accounting and tax function. As Client Accounting & Tax Manager, you’ll lead the team responsible for delivering client accounting and tax compliance work, overseeing workflow and quality, developing the capability of the accountants around you, and helping ensure clients receive accurate, timely and professional service.

Key responsibilities

Leading, coaching and developing a team of accountants

Planning and managing workflow to meet client commitments and IRD filing deadlines

Overseeing the quality and timely delivery of clients' financial statements, tax returns and other compliance work

Providing technical guidance on accounting and taxation matters

Building strong client relationships and managing the onboarding of new clients

Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and ways of working

Contributing to business development and new client opportunities

About you

Strong experience in financial accounts and tax compliance within New Zealand

Appropriate qualifications, and ideally a CA or CPA qualification

Experience leading, coaching or supervising accounting staff

Strong accounting and New Zealand taxation knowledge

The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

Confidence using accounting systems such as Xero

Strong client relationship and communication skills

A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership
