Job summary

St Mary's Catholic School (Rotorua) in the Bay of Plenty is seeking a motivated Classroom Teacher for a fixed-term position supporting years 1–8. The Certificated teacher will contribute to literacy, numeracy and curriculum delivery while building strong relationships with students and whānau.

The role runs full time from 26 January 2027 to 14 December 2027 (maternity leave). Collaborative, faith‑based school community with a focus on high-quality teaching and learning.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current certificated teaching registration.
• Experience teaching literacy and numeracy.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and whānau.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality literacy and numeracy teaching.
• Plan and deliver curriculum for Years 1–8.
• Develop strong, respectful relationships with students, staff and whānau.
• Contribute to school-wide programs and pastoral care.
• Participation in religious instruction as required by the school.

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and collaborative teacher committed to high-quality teaching and learning. The successful applicant will have sound curriculum knowledge, effective classroom management skills, and be able to develop strong, respectful relationships with students, staff and whānau.

The applicant should have a strong foundation in teaching literacy and numeracy. It would be advantageous if you were familiar with Explicit Direct Instruction Pedagogy and the Science of Learning. Candidates should have experience in teaching structured literacy.

A willingness to participate in religious instruction appropriate to the special character of our school is a condition of appointment.
