Job summary

VIP Structural Steel is seeking an experienced Class 4 Truck/Trailer Driver / HIAB Operator to join our Christchurch team. The role covers transport, loading and delivery of structural steel across Christchurch and the South Island.

You will operate HIAB cranes, telehandlers and forklifts safely, maintain load security and assist with yard operations as required. A positive, team-focused attitude and good English communication are essential.

Qualifications

• A clean and current Class 5 Driver Licence is advantageous
• HIAB operating experience is required or advantageous
• Strong knowledge of load restraint and safe loading/unloading practices
• A high commitment to Health and Safety in a logistics environment
• Pride in maintaining trucks and equipment and a safe driving record
• Experience in steel construction or heavy transport is advantageous
• Clear written and verbal English communication is essential

• Deliveries throughout Christchurch and the South Island
• Loading and unloading structural steel using HIAB and forklifts
• Supporting yard operations where required
• Ensuring all loads are secure and compliant for transport

VIP Structural Steel is a locally owned and operated business specialising in the design, supply, fabrication, and erection of structural steel for commercial and residential projects.

We are currently seeking an experienced Class 4 Truck & Trailer Driver / HIAB Operator to join our team. This is a dynamic role involving the transport, loading, and delivery of structural steel across Christchurch and the wider South Island.

The position requires the safe operation of trucks, trailers, HIAB cranes, telehandlers, and forklifts. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safe lifting, load security, and logistics practices when handling structural steel.

VIP Structural Steel supports ongoing training and development, and opportunities exist for the right candidate to grow within the wider business.

Our ideal candidate will have:

• A clean and current Class 5 Driver Licence (advantageous)
• HIAB operating experience
• Strong knowledge of load restraint and safe loading/unloading practices
• A high commitment to Health and Safety
• Pride in maintaining their truck and equipment
• Steel construction or heavy transport experience (advantageous)
• The ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal
