Job summary

Downer is seeking a Registered Drainlayer for our Gisborne team to deliver essential water infrastructure projects. The role involves hands-on drainage work with a focus on safety, quality and collaboration to keep communities connected.

You will install and renew drainage systems, read plans and work with supervision to meet project requirements. A Level 3 Drainlaying qualification and PGDB registration are essential.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Drainlaying qualification is required.
  • Current registration with the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (PGDB) is required.
  • Experience on drainage and water infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of drainage construction practices and standards is essential.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, teamwork and communication skills.
  • Commitment to health, safety and quality; a full NZ driver licence is required.

Responsibilities

  • Install wastewater, stormwater and drainage infrastructure.
  • Lay PVC, PE and concrete pipelines.
  • Construct manholes, chambers and related structures.
  • Complete drainage renewals, upgrades and maintenance.
  • Read and interpret construction plans and specs.
  • Support site safety, quality and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with crews, supervisors and subcontractors.

As a Registered Drainlayer, you'll be part of a skilled and hardworking crew delivering a variety of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects throughout the Tairāwhiti region.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll apply your technical expertise, solve problems on site, and take pride in delivering quality work that helps keep communities connected and thriving.

Your day-to-day may include:
  • Installing wastewater, stormwater and drainage infrastructure
  • Laying PVC, PE and concrete pipelines

  • Completing drainage renewals, upgrades and maintenance projects
  • Reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications
  • Supporting site safety, quality and environmental standards
  • Working collaboratively with crews, supervisors and subcontractors
