Job summary

JobSpace is seeking two experienced Chinese Cuisine Chefs for a Chinese restaurant in Auckland. The roles require leading daily kitchen operations, preparing high-standard Chinese dishes, and maintaining food safety and quality to meet service demand.

Ideal candidates have at least two years of relevant experience or NZQF Level 5+ qualification, strong teamwork, and the ability to supervise and train kitchen staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• At least two years of relevant work experience or NZQF Level 5 or above qualification.
• Knowledge of Chinese cuisine, ingredients, cooking methods and commercial kitchen operations.
• Ability to prepare Chinese dishes to a consistent professional standard.
• Kitchen supervision and coordination skills.
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen environment.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily food preparation, kitchen workflow and food output to meet service requirements and customer demand.
• Plan and develop menus, review recipes, estimate food, labour and supply requirements, and discuss issues.
• Prepare, season, cook and present a range of Chinese cuisine using wok, steaming, roasting, braising and sauces.
• Monitor quality, taste, portion size and presentation; take corrective action as needed.
• Inspect ingredients to ensure quality, freshness and food safety standards.
• Order food supplies, monitor stock levels and maintain ingredients to meet operations.
• Coordinate and train cooks and kitchenhands, allocate duties and demonstrate cooking procedures.
• Minimise food wastage and ensure proper storage and rotation.
• Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.
