Job summary

PHF Science is seeking an experienced Head of Research to lead the Office of the Chief Scientist, shaping the organisation's research capability and long-term sustainability across New Zealand.

The role focuses on operational leadership of the research portfolio, governance, and the enhancement of systems, ethics, data stewardship, and publication processes, while building national and international partnerships and overseeing major funding bids.

Qualifications

• Evidence of senior leadership in a public sector or Crown Research Institute environment.
• Ability to influence strategic direction and organisational outcomes.
• Experience integrating Te Tiriti o Waitangi and te reo Māori where relevant.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership of PHF Science's research portfolio and governance framework.
• Lead continuous improvement of research systems, quality standards, ethics, publication processes, and data stewardship.
• Strengthen national and international scientific partnerships and relationships.
• Oversee strategic funding activities, major research bids, and key stakeholder partnerships.
