Job summary

The University of Otago in Dunedin invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Fellow to support teaching in undergraduate chemistry papers, especially CHEM191 and CHEM199. The role is full-time (1.0 FTE) from February 2027 to 30 November 2027, based in Ōtepoti (Dunedin).

You will supervise labs and tutorials, assist with equity group teaching, provide student support, and help course coordinators run the 100-level papers.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Chemistry.
• Proven ability to teach at tertiary level.
• Experience supporting diverse student cohorts in a New Zealand context.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organisational skills.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, and sustainability frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise or demonstrate in lab classes.
• Supervise tutorials in CHEM191/199.
• Support equity group teaching.
• Provide one-on-one and pastoral student support.
• Assist course coordinators in running the 100-level papers.
