The Boat Shed Cafe and Bistro – Queenstown, South Island
We’re The Boat Shed Cafe, a Queenstown icon perched on the edge of Frankton Marina with front-row views of Lake Whakatipu and the Remarkables. Set inside a beautifully restored 1860s railway shipping office, we’re known for great coffee, seasonal food, warm hospitality, and the kind of lakeside setting people build their day around.
We look after our people. That means proper training, clear expectations, a team that backs each other, and perks that actually matter: a strong remuneration package, free health insurance (where eligible), and discounts across our venues (Canyon Brewing, Dishery and The Boat Shed Bakery).
If your dream “office” looks like Lake Whakatipu and the Remarkables, you’re in the right place.
Enough about us, here’s a bit about your new role.
Your day will involve:
Owning your section during prep and service, ensuring every dish leaves the kitchen with consistency, care, and attention to detail
Preparing and cooking menu items to a high standard, while keeping service smooth, efficient, and well-paced
Supporting and guiding junior kitchen staff on your section, helping build confidence, capability, and strong kitchen habits
Keeping your station clean, organised, and service-ready at all times, while staying on top of stock levels, mise en place, and food safety procedures
You will bring:
At least two years’ experience in a similar kitchen role, with confidence running your own section
Strong cooking skills, excellent attention to detail, and pride in producing quality food consistently
The ability to work well as part of a team, communicate clearly, and stay calm under pressure during busy services
A reliable, hardworking attitude and a solid understanding of kitchen hygiene, food safety, and day-to-day section management
