Job summary

• Liaise with Manager and staff on kitchen issues.
• Maintain knowledge of the menu and demonstrate techniques as needed.
• Prepare and cook dishes using specified techniques and procedures.
• Explain and enforce hygiene regulations to keep the kitchen clean.
• Help select and train staff to cook dishes if required.

Job description

Sunway Food Ltd is looking to employ one chef for Asian fusion food offered by our restaurant in Whangarei. The chef we are looking for will work minimum 30 hours per week and be paid $30 per hour. You will be expected to work in a busy environment but have to be presentable, reliable and able to deliver under pressure whiles maintain the highest standards of quality and presentation.

The main tasks are as follows:

• To be responsible for the planning, preparation and cooking of the dishes.
• Developing and planning new menu to the existing menu if necessary and making changes at any time according to the feedback from customers.
• Estimating food and labor costs to maintain profit margins.
• Checking food stock to order food supplies accordingly.
• Monitoring quality of the dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
• Liaison with Manager and the other staff to discuss the food preparation issues if any.
• Maintaining a full knowledge of the menu and be able to demonstrate techniques and to advise on cooking procedures of the dishes if needed.
• Preparing and cooking the dishes with the techniques and procedures specified.
• Explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations to ensure kitchen is clean and tidy.
• Helping select and train staff to cook dishes if required.
